What this work covers
Lighting installation routes separate controls to downlights, concealed strips, sensors, fans, and other fixtures, then mounts and tests them against the switch plan. Because every cut touches the finished ceiling, wiring set-out and fixture installation should be inspected as two distinct stages.

When this work is needed
Prepare new wiring when downlight positions or quantities change, or when concealed lighting, sensors, and fans need separate control. If a fixture is replaced at the same point, check its size, power supply, dimming compatibility, and recess depth before assuming the existing wiring can stay unchanged.
Decide before cutting the ceiling
Set the visible lighting pattern and the hidden equipment space together.
- Fixture type, quantity, exact position, and spacing in each room
- Colour temperature, brightness, dimming, and sensor operation
- Lights, fans, and concealed strips controlled by each switch
- Recess depth and conflicts with framing, ducts, pipes, and access panels
- Accessible positions for LED drivers and electrical connections
Check in the quote
Separate products, wiring, cutting, mounting, controls, and final testing.
- Are fixture products, quantities, and positions listed by room?
- Are wiring, conduit, ceiling cuts, and fixture installation included?
- Are strip-light drivers, sensors, and dimming devices included?
- Are fans and lights separated and matched to the intended switches?
- Are tests for operation, flicker, heat, and faulty-product replacement defined?

What to check on site
Lighting has to align with ceilings, furniture, controls, and services. Check the set-out before cutting, then inspect not only brightness but operation, heat, and future access.

Mark living-room and kitchen downlights and concealed lighting against ceiling lines, cabinets, and dining furniture. If a beam or duct forces a change, rebalance the whole row rather than shifting one light in isolation. - Bathroom, Entry, and Communication Wiring Complete

Route bathroom fan and sensor wiring, entry controls, detectors, and communication cables separately to their specified points. Check wet-area ratings, earth, sensor direction, and access to drivers above the ceiling. - Fixture Installation and Lighting Test Complete

Cut and secure each fixture, then test every switch combination, dimmer, sensor, and fan. Check flicker, noise, unusual heat, and an even fit to the ceiling before recording circuits and product details.
Where problems usually start

- Light cut in the wrong position A cut made without checking framing and the coordinated plan may require patching or replacement of the ceiling finish.
- Circuits or conductors crossed Incorrect identification can make the wrong light operate or leave switches controlling an unintended combination.
- Communication cable bent too tightly Ignoring the permitted bend radius can make sensors, controls, or wall panels unreliable after connection.
- Detector wiring omitted Missing fire-detector connections can require remedial work before the safety inspection passes.
If a light flickers, check dimmer compatibility, driver, connection, and incoming supply before replacing the fixture alone.
Keep pre-closure routes and no-cut zones, final cut coordinates, fixture and driver models, switch-to-circuit mapping, and operation and heat-test results.
Timing and records
Allow about four to eight hours for lighting wiring and installation. Fixture count, concealed strips, sensors, communications, and difficult ceiling cuts can change this. Programme wiring separately from final mounting after the ceiling finish.
Keep the final lighting plan, fixture and driver products and quantities, circuits, ceiling conflicts, cut coordinates, switch mapping, and operation and heat-test results.
