Plasterboard installation fixes gypsum board, MDF details, and plywood reinforcement to a straight wall or ceiling subframe. The finished boards become the base for wallpaper, paint, or film and also conceal insulation, wiring, and loaded fixing points, so the hidden work must be accepted before the final face is closed.
When this work is needed
It is used to cover insulated walls and to form hidden doors, curtain pockets, trimless corners, and walls carrying a television or shelves. If an existing wall is already flat and needs no concealed work or new reinforcement, compare a local repair and putty finish before specifying full board coverage.
Decide before fixing the boards
Set the finish standard and every concealed support point while the frame is still visible.

Are subframe installation, plumb correction, and staggered board joints included?

Are protruding fixings, damaged edges, surface steps, and carpentry waste included in inspection and cleanup?
What to check on site
The board is both the finish base and the last cover over services and reinforcement. Accept the hidden work first, then inspect the fixed surface in the light that will reveal it later.
01Subframe and Reinforcement Locations Complete
Check the plumb and spacing of battens or studs and plan where each board joint will fall. Install plywood support at televisions, shelves, cabinets, and other loaded points, then record its centreline and dimensions before it disappears.
02Gypsum Board and MDF Fixing Complete
Arrange boards so vertical and horizontal joints do not continue through adjacent layers. Match MDF thickness at hidden doors and trimless details, and avoid loose slivers or oversized gaps around curtain pockets, corners, and electrical boxes.
03Inspection and First Waste Cleanup Complete
Use side light to find steps, loose edges, protruding screws, and screws driven through the face paper. Verify openings and reinforcement locations one last time, then remove dust and offcuts before handing the surface to the putty trade.
Where problems usually start
Joint line visible through paintWhen board seams align, movement concentrates beneath the putty and returns as a straight crack after painting.
Protruding screw or stapleA proud fixing can press through wallpaper or film, tearing it or lifting the adhesive surface.
Subframe out of plumbBoards follow the uneven frame, leaving a wavy wall and inconsistent gaps around door trim.
Loaded fixing without reinforcementShelves, curtain pockets, and hidden doors can sag when they are fastened only to plasterboard.
Do not judge the work by board colour or sheet count. Confirm the concealed support, frame plumb, joint layout, and surface fixing condition that the final finish will inherit.
Keep the board type and layers, frame spacing and plumb, concealed insulation and service photographs, reinforcement dimensions, joint layout, openings, and surface inspection results.
Timing and records
Allow about 8 to 16 hours on site. Wall area, layer count, hidden doors, curtain pockets, trimless corners, and reinforcement zones can change this, and the boards should not close before insulation and electrical first fix are accepted.
Record board products, thicknesses and layers by room, subframe plumb, concealed services and insulation, reinforcement positions, joint layout, openings, and the final surface check.
