What this work covers
A partition wall fixes runners to the floor and ceiling, builds a stud frame, and incorporates door openings, acoustic infill, electrical services, and loaded reinforcement before both faces are boarded. Because the internal frame disappears, the finished room dimensions, door geometry, and concealed services need to agree at the framing stage.

When this work is needed
Use it to divide a room or create a dressing room, pantry, pocket door, arch, or the side of a refrigerator cabinet. If the aim is only visual separation, compare movable furniture or a screen first and check whether a fixed wall would reduce daylight, ventilation, or circulation unnecessarily.
Decide before marking the wall line
Confirm the room geometry and everything that must sit inside the wall.
- Exact wall position, finished thickness, and full height to the ceiling
- Door type, opening dimensions, and pocket required for a sliding door
- Concealed sockets, switches, data cables, and support for a wall-mounted television
- Acoustic infill area and plasterboard layers between adjoining rooms
- Double studs and plywood reinforcement for doors, shelves, and fitted furniture
Check in the quote
The wall length alone does not describe the door opening or anything concealed inside it.
- Are length, height, and finished thickness stated for each partition?
- Are runner and stud size, spacing, and floor and ceiling fixings specified?
- Are double studs and a reinforced header included at every door opening?
- Are acoustic infill product and coverage plus board layers stated?
- Are electrical and data services, loaded support, and a final movement check included?

What to check on site
The partition is a room boundary and a structure supporting doors, furniture, and services. Confirm the finished dimensions first, then accept the contents of the frame before the second face is closed.

Mark the finished wall line on floor and ceiling and test the real door width, furniture depth, and clear circulation. Fix runners and studs to the structure, plumb the frame, and add doubled framing and plywood wherever doors, televisions, or shelves will impose load. - Acoustic Insulation and Gypsum Board Complete

After one face is boarded, secure protected electrical and data routes and set boxes at the planned finished heights. Fill acoustic insulation without compression or voids, then stagger the joints on the second face from those on the first. - Custom Structures Complete

Set custom arches, feature boxes, pocket-door zones, and cabinet side walls to the drawings, then check plumb, square, and finished thickness. Test doors and drawers at full scale so neither the completed finish nor the reduced passage creates a conflict.
Where problems usually start

- Partition that vibrates when pushed Wide stud spacing or weak runner fixings allow the wall to move and can later crack the finish.
- Empty acoustic cavity Missing or incomplete mineral wool lets everyday sound pass easily through the hollow wall.
- Door opening without enough framing A weak header or single side studs can distort under repeated door movement and change the frame gaps.
- Board joint aligned at a stressed line Movement concentrates where seams continue or meet a door corner and can return as a crack through paint.
Although it finishes like an ordinary wall, a partition carries doors, fittings, and services. Check finished thickness, frame spacing, openings, and concealed reinforcement as separate items.
Keep the set-out line and dimensions, runner and stud specification, door and loaded reinforcement, concealed services, acoustic infill, board joints, and movement-test photographs.
Timing and records
Allow about 8 to 16 hours on site. Wall length and height, doors, arches, pocket doors, acoustic infill, and custom structures can change this, and electrical and data checks need their own time before closure.
Record the finished line and thickness, runner and stud spacing, door opening support, electrical and data locations, acoustic infill, plywood reinforcement, board joints, and final movement check.
The partition line starts at setting-out and continues through plasterboard and door installation, so the finished dimensions and opening should remain consistent across all three.
