PVC sheet flooring is the broad roll floor commonly known as sheet vinyl. Its width can reduce the number of joints across a room, but the flexible sheet also reveals bumps, loose areas, and old floor damage beneath it. Before choosing a pattern, decide where the roll will run and how the floor below it will be repaired.
A broad, comfortable floor for dry living spaces
Sheet flooring suits living rooms, bedrooms, children's rooms, and rental homes where a relatively quick refresh, easy cleaning, and a softer feel underfoot are priorities.
- Dry rooms that can be covered with few visible joints by planning the roll direction in advance
- Homes comparing cushion feel, overall thickness, cleaning, and installation cost together
- Projects that can inspect the old floor before deciding whether to remove it or cover it
Do not use the sheet to hide moisture or loose flooring, and do not treat it as the waterproofing system for a bathroom or balcony.
- Water regularly stands on the floor and no separate waterproofing or drainage plan exists
- Moisture, loose areas, cracks, or pronounced ridges in the old floor have not been repaired
- A patched section is expected to be almost invisible after future damage

Start with room width, seams, and everyday feel
A thicker sheet is not automatically the better choice. The roll width, surface, cushioning, and condition of the old floor need to work together.
- How many joints will the room need?
- Compare the room dimensions with the available roll width. If a joint is unavoidable, mark it on the plan after furniture is placed and keep it away from vulnerable wet or heavily used edges where possible.
- How does it feel underfoot, and how easily will it dent?
- A cushioned floor can feel warmer and softer, but heavy furniture may leave deeper marks and added thickness can catch beneath doors. Stand on the real sample and compare all the layers in the chosen floor, not one number.
- Is the surface convincing in the room's light?
- Review a large sample for color, shine, texture, and printed repeat. A screen image cannot show how the floor meets a joint or how the surface looks across a broad room.
- Can it be used over this heated floor?
- Use the exact product instructions to confirm temperature limits, how the room and old floor must be prepared, the installation method, and how the heating must be restarted afterward. Sheet vinyl as a category does not answer those questions.

Price the work beneath one continuous sheet
Once the floor is finished, repairs below it and the treatment of each joint disappear from view. Put them in the quote before installation.
- State whether the old floor will be removed or covered, including disposal and any limits set by the selected product.
- Separate inspection and repair of moisture, cracks, loose areas, ridges, and old glue.
- Show the roll direction, every sheet joint, wall-edge finish, and doorway transition on the room plan.
- Measure the final height at doors, wall trim, fixed furniture, and adjoining floors, including glue where required.
- Record the earliest times for walking, replacing furniture, cleaning, and restarting floor heating.

Protect the broad surface and its few vulnerable joints
A damaged section of a broad sheet can be harder to replace discreetly than one tile or plank.
- Wipe spills promptly and keep standing water away from joints and perimeter edges.
- Use furniture pads and lift heavy items rather than dragging them across the surface.
- Keep the product name, color, code printed on the roll or package, the direction it was installed, and a usable leftover piece so a future repair can be planned with a realistic color match.
