What this work covers
Boiler replacement safely disconnects the old unit, fixes the new appliance, reconnects gas, water, heating, flue, controls, and power, then commissions the system. Capacity matters, but so do a qualified installer, leak testing, a safe flue route, and enough access for inspection and servicing.

When this work is needed
Replacement may be appropriate when the appliance is old, hot-water or heating capacity is inadequate, or a layout change alters its location and connections. If heating alone is poor, inspect circulation, manifold valves, pipework, and controls before assuming the boiler itself has failed.
Decide before ordering
Confirm the appliance and the conditions required for safe installation and maintenance.
- Boiler type, output, and model suited to the home and hot-water demand
- A sound mounting wall with ventilation and service clearance
- Scope of gas, cold-water, flow, and return pipe alterations
- External flue termination, fall, jointing, and penetration seal

Check in the quote
Separate the appliance price from removal, connection work, safety tests, and handover.
- Are removal, transport, and disposal of the old boiler included?
- Are the new unit, bracket, flue, and connection fittings identified by product and size?
- Are gas, water, and heating-pipe alterations priced separately?
- Does a qualified installer carry out gas-tightness and flue-seal checks?
- Are ignition, hot-water, and heating tests plus warranty and operating guidance included?

What to check on site
This is not simply an appliance swap. Gas, water, heating, combustion air, and exhaust all have to be reconnected and tested as one safe system.
- Remove old boiler and fix new bracket

Isolate gas, electricity, and water, record the existing connections, and remove the old appliance. Fix the new bracket to a wall that can carry the load while keeping the manufacturer's ventilation and service clearances. - Connect piping and flue

Connect gas, water, heating flow and return, and the flue with approved components. Confirm flue restraint, sealed joints, and the required outward fall, and do not keep attempting ignition before gas-tightness and flue checks pass. - Connect power and run startup test

Restore power and commission hot-water delivery, temperature stability, and circulation through each heating circuit. Check noise and errors, then show the user the pressure gauge, controls, isolation points, warranty, and service contact.
Where problems usually start

- Gas connection A leaking gas joint can cause fire or explosion and must be tested by a qualified installer before ignition.
- Flue and wall penetration A poorly restrained or sealed flue can return combustion gases indoors instead of discharging them safely outside.
- Water connection and pressure Incorrect direction or pressure can strain internal components, so installation readings need to be checked during commissioning.
If you smell gas or suspect combustion gases indoors, stop using the appliance, ventilate the area, and arrange immediate inspection by a qualified professional and the responsible building authority.
At handover, collect the model and serial number, installer details, gas-test record, flue photographs, hot-water and heating results, warranty, and operating instructions together.
Timing and records
Allow roughly four to eight hours for installation and commissioning. Gas-pipe relocation, a changed flue penetration, product lead time, or separate inspection can extend the overall programme.
Keep the make, model, serial number, installer and date, gas, water and heating connections, flue fall and penetration, tightness and commissioning results, and warranty documents.
Read the heating pipework before the boiler and the test and handover stages after it as one connected system.
