What this work covers
Countertop installation sets solid-surface sections on the base cabinets, joins them into one working plane, and cuts openings for the sink, hob, and built-in outlets. Once a hole is oversized it is difficult to make smaller, so the actual appliance and its installation drawing must be confirmed before any cutting begins.
When this work is needed
It is required for a new kitchen counter or when an existing top is replaced. The supporting cabinets must already be level and the final sink, hob, and outlet models must be known. Otherwise the joint can step, an appliance may not fit, or a drawer and service line may sit directly beneath the planned opening.
Decide before cutting
Confirm the appliances as carefully as the colour and thickness of the top.
- Countertop material, thickness, wall overhang, section lengths, and joint locations
- Actual sink and hob models, manufacturer cutout dimensions, and final positions
- Built-in outlet positions and routes for dishwasher wiring and plumbing
- Colour matching at joints, sanding extent, edge profile, and protection after installation
